Landari Hurfords 2025

Project Information:

Landari Hurfords 2025 is a plantation forestry project spanning three distinct sites across the forestry regions of Northern New South Wales and the Wide Bay-Burnett region in Queensland. The project's NSW component is located approximately 35km west of Casino, near the town of Tabulam, while the Queensland sites are situated roughly 10km south of Kilkivan and 25km west of Gayndah. Registered in July 2025, the project covers a total area of approximately 1,895 hectares.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022, specifically utilizing the "Schedule 4" activity. This involves transitioning an existing plantation forest, which was at risk of being converted to non-forested land (such as pasture for grazing), into a permanent forest. By committing to maintain the forest cover permanently rather than harvesting it, the project generates carbon credits. The surrounding regions are heavily utilized for beef cattle grazing and commercial timber operations, characterized by a subtropical climate. The NSW site typically experiences higher rainfall with clay and loam soils, whereas the inland Queensland sites near Gayndah are drier, featuring red earth soils and variable rainfall suitable for hardwood species.

This project appears to be a collaboration between the project proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, a specialist carbon developer based in Armidale, and Hurfords, a third-generation Australian family timber business. Hurfords is known to hold over 5,000 hectares of land for reforestation and plantation purposes in Northern NSW. The project likely represents a strategic shift for certain Hurfords' plantation assets, moving them from a harvest rotation to a permanent carbon sink conservation model.
