Cooeeanna Carbon Project 12

Project Information:

Cooeeanna Carbon Project 12 is a soil carbon sequestration project located at the Cooeeanna homestead, approximately 9km southwest of the town of Lock on the central Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Registered on September 12, 2025, the project covers a land area of roughly 275.69 hectares. The region is predominantly utilized for mixed dryland farming, combining cereal cropping with grazing operations.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. Specifically, this project aims to address material soil deficiencies by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers. Standard requirements for such projects include rigorous baseline soil sampling to establish starting carbon levels, followed by permanent maintenance of the sequestered carbon for either 25 or 100 years.

Environmentally, the Lock region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with low to medium rainfall. The landscape features gently undulating plains with soils that are typically calcareous sandy loams. These soils are often shallow and contain significant amounts of limestone rubble (calcrete), which presents unique management challenges; the Cooeeanna property is known locally for active "stone picking" efforts to improve arable land quality. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon market. The sequential numbering of the project (Project 12) suggests it is part of a larger aggregation of carbon estimation areas across the property, likely registered in a batch to optimize management zones.
