Cooeeanna Carbon Project 11
ERF203823
Project Information:
Cooeeanna Carbon Project 11 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 17km west-north-west of the town of Lock on the Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. Registered on September 12, 2025, the project covers an area of roughly 342 hectares. The region is predominantly used for mixed farming, incorporating cereal cropping and livestock grazing, typical of the central Eyre Peninsula's agricultural zones.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks through changes in land management. Specifically, this project involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. By optimizing nutrient availability, the project aims to boost plant productivity and root biomass, which drives the sequestration of carbon into the soil profile.
The local environment around Lock is characterized by a semi-arid climate, typically receiving between 350mm and 400mm of rainfall annually. The landscape is dominated by the Lock Land System, which features calcareous sandy loams (Calcarosols) and siliceous sands. These soils are generally deep and moderately fertile but can face challenges such as wind erosion susceptibility and subsoil constraints like elevated boron or salinity.
It is worth noting that this project appears to be part of a series of carbon projects on the "Cooeeanna" property, as indicated by the sequential numbering and similar registrations (e.g., Cooeeanna Carbon Project 9). The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a leading developer in the Australian soil carbon sector known for utilizing digital platforms to streamline project compliance and reporting.
