Cooeeanna Carbon Project 10

ERF203822

Project Information:

Cooeeanna Carbon Project 10 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 20km west of the town of Lock on the central Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. Registered in September 2025, the project covers a land area of roughly 251 hectares. The region surrounding Lock is a significant agricultural hub, predominantly utilized for cereal cropping (wheat and barley) and sheep grazing.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This method requires landholders to implement new or materially different management activities to increase soil carbon levels, which are then verified through a combination of physical soil sampling and modelling. For this specific project, the primary activity involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address nutrient deficiencies, thereby boosting plant growth and soil organic matter.

Environmentally, the central Eyre Peninsula is classified as semi-arid, with an average annual rainfall of approximately 350mm to 400mm. The landscape is characterized by flat to gently undulating farming land with soils that are typically calcareous sandy loams or red duplex soils, which can be prone to wind erosion if not managed carefully. The designation "Project 10" suggests this registration is part of a larger aggregation of projects on the Cooeeanna property, likely segmented to manage baselining and credit issuance across different paddocks.
