Silver Hills Carbon Project 2
ERF202682
Project Information:
Silver Hills Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near the rural locality of Rannes in the Banana Shire of Central Queensland. Situated approximately 45 kilometers north of the major service centre of Biloela and 100 kilometers southwest of Rockhampton, the project operates within the productive agricultural zone of the Dawson Valley. Registered in April 2025, the project covers a relatively focused area of 124.57 hectares.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This methodology allows landholders to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by implementing new management activities that increase soil organic carbon levels. To measure these increases, the project likely establishes a baseline using physical soil core samples and may utilize models or subsequent sampling to quantify sequestration over time. As the proponent, Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd acts as the project developer, a common model where a specialized carbon service provider manages the regulatory and technical complexity for the landholder.
The Banana Shire region is characterized by a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall averaging between 600mm and 700mm annually. The landscape around Rannes typically features texture-contrast soils and cracking clays (Vertosols), which are characteristic of the Brigalow Belt bioregion. These soils are generally fertile and highly suitable for the project's stated activities, which include re-establishing pastures through seeding or cropping and altering grazing intensity. By optimizing stocking rates and improving vegetation cover, the project aims to enhance soil health and resilience against the region's variable rainfall.
