Silver Hills Carbon Project 1

Project Information:

Silver Hills Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Banana Shire of Central Queensland, approximately 15km southeast of the small town of Dululu and roughly 80km south of the regional city of Rockhampton. Registered on April 14, 2025, the project covers an area of 131.67 hectares.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by increasing soil organic carbon through changed management practices. The specific activities for this project include re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures, likely through seeding improved varieties, and altering grazing stocking rates or intensity. These changes are designed to increase vegetation cover and soil health, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil.

The surrounding Callide Valley region is a hub for beef cattle production and dryland cropping. The environment is characterized by a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall averaging around 650–700mm annually. The soils in this area are typically fertile cracking clays (Vertosols) or loamy texture contrast soils (Dermosols), which are well-suited to the pasture improvement activities proposed by the project. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, is a special purpose vehicle managed by Agriprove, one of Australia’s largest developers of soil carbon projects, known for utilizing digital technology to streamline the credit generation process.
