Silver Hills Carbon Project 6

Project Information:

Silver Hills Carbon Project 6 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Banana Shire of Central Queensland, approximately 25 kilometers northwest of the township of Banana and 130 kilometers southwest of Gladstone. Registered in April 2025, the project covers a project area of roughly 121 hectares. The region is a significant agricultural hub known primarily for beef cattle grazing and dryland cropping, situated within the Brigalow Belt which supports a mix of pasture and scrubland.

The project operates under the "Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models" methodology. This framework allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by implementing new management activities that increase soil carbon levels relative to a baseline. For Silver Hills Carbon Project 6, these activities involve altering stocking rates and grazing intensity, alongside rejuvenating pastures through seeding or pasture cropping. The goal is to improve soil vegetation cover and health, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil.

Environmentally, the Banana Shire region is characterized by a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall. The area typically experiences an annual rainfall of approximately 600-700mm. The soils in this vicinity are generally fertile, often consisting of heavy cracking clays and loams derived from the underlying sedimentary geology, which are well-suited to the project's grazing and pasture improvement activities. The designation "Project 6" suggests this initiative is part of a larger aggregated series or a segmented approach to carbon farming on the property managed by AgriProve.
