Glenavon Carbon Project 5

Project Information:

Glenavon Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the locality of Wycarbah, approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Rockhampton in Central Queensland. Registered in July 2025, the project covers a specific area of 190.60 hectares within the broader agricultural landscape of the Fitzroy Basin. The region is predominantly utilized for beef cattle grazing, with the Glenavon property itself being a well-established cattle station known for breeding Brangus cattle.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. For this specific project, the proponent, Agriprove Solutions, is working with the landholder to implement activities such as altering stocking rates to improve vegetation cover and rejuvenating pastures through seeding or cropping. These activities are designed to increase the amount of biomass returning to the soil, thereby sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Environmentally, the Wycarbah region experiences a sub-tropical to semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall, typically averaging between 600mm and 800mm annually. The soils in the Fitzroy Basin area are often fertile Vertosols (cracking clays) or texture-contrast Dermosols, which have high potential for carbon sequestration when managed effectively to retain ground cover and water. The relatively small size of this project (approx. 190ha) compared to the typical station size suggests it may be a trial paddock or a specific high-intensity management zone within the larger Glenavon aggregation.
