Glenavon Carbon Project 4

Project Information:

Glenavon Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon project located approximately 38km southwest of Rockhampton in Central Queensland. The project area, covering roughly 196 hectares, sits near the locality of Wycarbah along the Capricorn Highway. Registered on July 22, 2025, the project operates within the Fitzroy Basin, a region heavily utilized for cattle grazing and agriculture.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This method allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by sequestering carbon in agricultural soils. To achieve this, the project proponent, Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, implements land management activities designed to increase soil organic carbon (SOC) levels. Specific activities for this project include altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing, often shifting from continuous to time-controlled rotational grazing, and re-establishing pastures through seeding or pasture cropping. These changes aim to improve ground cover and soil health, thereby increasing the soil's capacity to hold carbon.

Environmentally, the Rockhampton region is classified as having a subtropical climate with a long-term average rainfall of approximately 800mm, significantly higher than the semi-arid interior further west. The soils in this area are typically fertile Vertosols (cracking clays) or Dermosols, which are well-suited for soil carbon sequestration due to their high clay content and water-holding capacity.

The project is facilitated by Agriprove, Australia's largest developer of soil carbon projects. The name "Glenavon" is shared by several prominent grazing properties in Queensland, including a large station near Clermont; however, the specific coordinates for Project 4 place it distinctively in the Rockhampton region, suggesting it may be a smaller holding or a sub-section of an aggregation under that name.
