Silver Hills Carbon Project 4
ERF202671
Project Information:
Silver Hills Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near the locality of Rannes, approximately 50km northwest of Biloela in Central Queensland. Registered in April 2025, the project covers 124 hectares of agricultural land within the Banana Shire. The region is predominantly utilized for beef cattle grazing and dryland cropping, characterizing a significant portion of Queensland's primary production landscape.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by increasing soil carbon stocks through changes in land management. Specific activities for this project include altering stocking rates and grazing intensity to improve vegetation cover, as well as rejuvenating pastures through seeding or pasture cropping. These practices are designed to boost biomass and soil health, thereby sequestering atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.
Environmentally, the Rannes area typically experiences a sub-tropical climate with summer-dominant rainfall, averaging around 650mm to 700mm annually. The soils in the Banana Shire are often characterized as cracking clays (Vertosols) and texture-contrast soils derived from the sedimentary rocks of the Bowen Basin, which are generally fertile and responsive to improved management practices. The project is facilitated by AgriProve, a prominent service provider in the Australian soil carbon market, known for managing large aggregations of soil carbon projects.
