Glenavon Carbon Project 1

Project Information:
Glenavon Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near Westwood, approximately 50km southwest of Rockhampton in Central Queensland. Registered in July 2025, the project covers a project area of approximately 144 hectares. The surrounding region lies within the Fitzroy Basin and is predominantly utilized for beef cattle grazing, with properties in the local Wycarbah and Westwood areas often running Brangus cattle on improved pastures such as Buffel grass and Green Panic.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Organic Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for increasing soil carbon stocks through improved management practices. Specific activities for this project include altering grazing intensity, likely transitioning to rotational or cell grazing strategies, and rejuvenating pastures through seeding. The proponent, Agriprove, typically utilizes digital soil measurement technologies and multi-species pasture cropping to accelerate carbon sequestration and improve soil health.
The environment in this part of Central Queensland is characterized by a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall averaging around 700mm to 800mm annually. Soils in the region vary but often feature cracking clays (Vertosols) and texture-contrast soils (Chromosols) which respond well to pasture improvement and increased ground cover. The project aims to improve soil vegetation cover and resilience against the region's variable climate conditions.
