Glenavon Carbon Project 2
ERF202665
Project Information:
Glenavon Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near Wycarbah in Central Queensland, approximately 50km southwest of Rockhampton. Registered in July 2025, the project covers 154 hectares of the larger Glenavon pastoral station. The region is a major hub for beef production, situated within the Fitzroy River basin.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for measurable increases in soil organic carbon stocks. To achieve this, the project involves altering stocking rates and grazing duration to improve ground cover, alongside re-establishing pastures through seeding. By optimizing the interaction between cattle grazing and vegetation growth, the project aims to sequester atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.
The local environment is characterized by a sub-tropical climate with summer-dominant rainfall. The Glenavon property and surrounding Wycarbah area are known for fertile soil types, typically consisting of heavy black and grey cracking clays (Vertosols) and deep red loams, which support improved pastures like Buffel and Green Panic grasses. The project area of 154 hectares suggests a targeted implementation on specific paddocks within the wider agricultural enterprise.
