Tebuana Beef Carbon Project
ERF201242
Project Information:
The Tebuana Beef Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located on the "Tebuana" property, approximately 20 kilometers north of Barraba in the North West Slopes region of New South Wales. Registered in June 2025, the project covers 571.81 hectares of agricultural land primarily used for cattle grazing. The property is owned and operated by the Hone family, who are known in the district for producing Wagyu and Angus cross cattle.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models), which credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon stocks through improved management practices. Specifically, this project focuses on addressing material nutrient deficiencies in the soil by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers. By correcting these imbalances, the project aims to stimulate pasture growth and root development, thereby increasing the amount of carbon captured from the atmosphere and stored in the soil profile.
The Barraba region typically experiences a moderate, summer-dominant rainfall pattern, with long-term averages around 680mm per year. The landscape consists of rolling slopes and valleys, commonly featuring Red Chromosols (red-brown earths) and texture-contrast soils, which are productive for grazing but can be susceptible to surface setting if not well-managed. The implementation of nutrient management strategies suggests a focus on improving soil health and pasture productivity, which aligns with the dual goals of carbon sequestration and sustainable beef production.
