Project Information:
AA2025R_TriboletL_S1 is a plantation forestry project located near the rural locality of Swanston, approximately 50km east of Oatlands and 25km northwest of Triabunna in the Southern Midlands of Tasmania. Registered in February 2025, the project covers roughly 140 hectares of land situated within the "Swanston" property or its immediate vicinity. The project area was expanded via a variation in August 2025, reflecting the integration of additional land into the plantation estate.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative-Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. It involves the establishment of a new plantation forest for commercial harvesting, likely focusing on Eucalyptus species given the proponent's association with the "ActivAcre" program, a partnership between SFM Environmental Solutions and institutional investors to develop dual-purpose carbon and timber assets. By planting trees on land previously used for grazing or other agricultural purposes, the project generates carbon credits (ACCUs) during the growth phase while producing renewable wood products.
The Swanston region is characterized by dryland grazing and forestry operations, often dealing with lower rainfall averages (approx. 500-600mm) compared to other parts of Tasmania. The landscape typically features dry sclerophyll forests and open pastures, with soils ranging from sandy loams to dolerite-derived clays. The landholder associated with the project, Daniel Tribolet, has been publicly recognized for implementing holistic grazing management techniques to regenerate degraded sandy soils in the area, suggesting this forestry project may be part of a broader diversified land management strategy.
