Project Information:

AA2025R_ShawL_S3 is a plantation forestry project located approximately 3km southwest of the small township of Gladstone in North East Tasmania. Registered on March 17, 2025, the project covers a specific area of 29.17 hectares. The project is part of the broader "ActivAcre" aggregation managed by SFM Environmental Solutions, which partners with Tasmanian landowners to integrate carbon and timber income streams.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022, specifically utilizing "Schedule 3: Avoided conversion of a plantation to non-forested land." This activity involves maintaining an existing plantation forest (typically Eucalyptus nitens or Eucalyptus globulus in this region) that would otherwise have been harvested and converted to agricultural use, such as pasture for grazing. By committing to replant or coppice the plantation for another rotation, the project avoids the emissions associated with clearing and removing the forest biomass.

The Gladstone region in North East Tasmania is characterized by a mix of native bushland, grazing properties, and forestry operations. Unlike the rich red basalt soils found further west near Scottsdale, the soils around Gladstone are often granitic sands or duplex clay types. The area experiences a temperate climate with reliable rainfall, though slightly drier than the lush Ringarooma hinterland, making it suitable for both extensive grazing and plantation forestry. The "ShawL" in the project name likely refers to the participating landowner or property name within the SFM portfolio.
