Landari St Marys 2024
ERF200929
Project Information:
Landari St Marys 2024 is a plantation forestry project located approximately 6km southwest of the township of St Marys in northeastern Tasmania. Registered on March 21, 2025, the project covers an area of 120.91 hectares within the Break O'Day Council region. The surrounding landscape is characterized by undulating plains and hills, traditionally utilized for grazing and cropping, with forestry being a significant industry in the broader district.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. This specific methodology allows for the establishment of new plantation forests on land that has not supported native forest for at least seven years (Schedule 1). Unlike permanent environmental plantings, this method permits commercial harvesting, allowing the project to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for carbon stored in the trees as well as in the long-term wood products derived from them.
Environmental conditions in the St Marys region are cool and temperate, with a moderate average annual rainfall of approximately 765mm to 800mm. The local geology often consists of Permian mudstones and sandstones, producing duplex soils with a sandy loam surface texture. These soils are generally well-suited to forestry but can be prone to erosion if vegetation cover is removed.
The project is developed by Landari Pty Ltd, a specialist forestry carbon proponent with a portfolio of projects across Tasmania and the mainland. By converting land previously used for agriculture into a commercial timber plantation, the project aims to sequester carbon while diversifying land income through sustainable timber production.
