Williams Carbon Project 1

Project Information:
Williams Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Warrumbungle Shire of Central West New South Wales. Situated approximately 20km northeast of the township of Gilgandra, the project operates within the region's productive wheat-sheep belt, an area heavily utilized for mixed farming, cropping, and grazing. The project was registered in March 2025 and covers a project area of roughly 107 hectares.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This method credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) levels through changes in land management. Standard requirements involve establishing a baseline measurement of soil carbon stocks, implementing new management activities, such as applying nutrients to address deficiencies, establishing permanent pasture on previously cropped land, and altering grazing intensity, and then measuring or modelling the subsequent increase in carbon over time.
Environmentally, the Gilgandra region typically experiences a semi-arid to temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 550mm to 600mm. The local landscape is often characterized by Vertosols (cracking clay soils) and Chromosols (red texture-contrast soils), which are well-suited to the project's aim of improving soil health and vegetation cover. The project is managed by Agriprove, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia.
