Yalumba Carbon Project

Project Information:
Yalumba Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the rural locality of Bunyah, approximately 20km inland from Coolongolook and Nabiac on the New South Wales Mid North Coast. Registered in May 2025, the project covers a relatively small area of roughly 59 hectares. The project is situated in the hinterland region west of the Pacific Highway, an area traditionally associated with beef cattle grazing and dairy farming.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved management practices. In this instance, the project activities focus on altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to promote vegetation cover and improve soil health. This "measured" approach requires the proponent to baseline soil carbon levels and conduct subsequent sampling rounds to quantify the sequestered carbon over time.
The Bunyah and Willina region is situated in a high rainfall zone, typically receiving between 1,000mm and 1,300mm annually. The landscape consists of rolling hills with soils that are generally acidic, low-fertility loams or clays (often classified as Chromosols or Dermosols). These soil types are common in the Mid North Coast hinterland and respond well to regenerative grazing practices that build organic matter. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a leading developer in the Australian soil carbon sector, and appears to be a targeted implementation on a specific grazing property.
