Wattle Creek Valley Carbon Project

ERF200521

Project Information:

Wattle Creek Valley Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, approximately 10 kilometers south of The Rock and 40 kilometers southwest of the major regional city of Wagga Wagga. Registered in February 2025, the project covers 823 hectares of agricultural land situated between the townships of The Rock and Yerong Creek.

The project is managed by Elamville Pty Ltd, acting as trustee for the GN & JF Male Family Trust, a local farming entity associated with the property "Yuendoo" in Yerong Creek. The region is characterized by a mixed farming landscape, supporting both cropping and grazing operations. The climate is temperate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 500-550mm, and the local terrain typically features red chromosol soils and loams suitable for dryland agriculture.

Operating under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology, the project aims to increase soil carbon stocks by modifying land management practices. Specifically, this project involves the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. By optimizing nutrient availability, the project seeks to boost plant growth and root biomass, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile. The project is supported by carbon service provider Climate Friendly Pty Ltd.
