Project Information:

Western Treefarm Project 2B (WTP2B) is a plantation forestry project located near Boyup Brook, approximately 270km south-southeast of Perth in Western Australia. It was registered in April 2025 and covers 967.20 ha.

Plantation forestry projects involve establishing new plantation forests or converting existing short-rotation plantations to long-rotation ones. Standard requirements dictate that the forest must be maintained and managed specifically for the commercial harvesting of wood products.

The Boyup Brook area is known for mixed broadacre farming, including sheep grazing and grain cropping, as well as commercial forestry operations. The region is considered a medium-to-high rainfall zone, typically receiving between 500mm and 700mm of rain annually. Soils in the area are generally ironstone, loamy gravels, and duplex sandy gravels.

This project sequesters carbon by establishing new commercial timber areas and transitioning existing short-rotation tree farms into longer growing cycles. The project is managed by Mitsui & Co. Wood Resources Oceania Pty Ltd (MWO), which oversees extensive pine and eucalyptus plantations across Australia to supply sustainable timber fibres and generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). Additionally, in December 2025, the project underwent a boundary variation where specific land areas were formally removed from the project.
