Tanner Carbon Project 2
ERF199792
Project Information:
Tanner Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near Nanango in the South Burnett region of Queensland. Registered in December 2024, the project covers approximately 114 hectares of agricultural land. The site is situated roughly 20 kilometers south of the major regional hub of Kingaroy, an area historically significant for its rich agricultural output.
The South Burnett region is renowned for its fertile "Red Earth" (Ferrosols) and is often referred to as the "Peanut Capital of Australia." However, the landscape also supports extensive beef cattle grazing and broadacre cropping on diverse soil types, including sandy loams and clay solodics. The local climate is subtropical with summer-dominant rainfall, averaging around 750mm annually, which provides favorable conditions for building soil organic carbon when combined with improved management practices.
Operated under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models), this project aims to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by increasing carbon stocks in the soil. The project proponent, Agriprove, is a leading developer in this sector, known for using a hybrid approach of physical soil coring and digital modeling to verify carbon gains.
Key activities for Tanner Carbon Project 2 include altering stocking rates to improve vegetation cover, converting from intensive to reduced tillage, retaining stubble after harvest, and rejuvenating pastures through seeding. These changes are designed to minimize soil disturbance and maximize biomass retention, which are critical drivers for sequestering carbon in mixed grazing and cropping systems.
