Tanner Carbon Project 3

Project Information:

Tanner Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near Kumbia, approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Kingaroy in the South Burnett region of Queensland. Registered in July 2025, the project covers 109.56 hectares of agricultural land. The South Burnett region is characterized by its diverse land use, famously known as the "Peanut Capital of Australia" due to its fertile soils, while also supporting extensive cattle grazing and broadacre cropping.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for measured increases in soil organic carbon stocks. Standard requirements for this method involve establishing a baseline through physical soil sampling and implementing new management activities to sequester carbon. For this specific project, activities include altering grazing intensity and duration to improve vegetation cover, as well as rejuvenating pastures through seeding or pasture cropping. The proponent, Agriprove, typically employs a model that integrates physical soil cores with remote sensing data to monitor changes over time.

Environmentally, the Kumbia area is situated in a sub-tropical climate zone with an average annual rainfall between 600mm and 800mm. The region is geologically distinct for its Krasnozems (Ferrosols), deep, red volcanic clays that are highly productive and free-draining, though parts of the landscape also feature cracking clay soils (Vertosols) and sandy loams suitable for mixed farming. These soil types are generally considered to have high potential for carbon sequestration when managed effectively under regenerative grazing practices.
