Lloyd Carbon Project 3

Project Information:

Lloyd Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 20km southwest of the major township of Temora in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered in October 2024, the project covers 131.1 hectares of agricultural land. The surrounding region is part of the South West Slopes, a highly productive area known for mixed farming operations that combine cropping (wheat and canola) with sheep and cattle grazing.

The project operates under the 2021 Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology. This framework allows landholders to earn carbon credits by adopting new management activities that store carbon in the soil. To achieve this, the project has implemented a diverse range of activities, including altering grazing intensity to improve vegetation cover, applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, and re-establishing pastures through seeding. The project also utilizes reduced tillage practices and stubble retention to minimize soil disturbance and protect organic matter.

Environmentally, the Temora region is characterized by a warm temperate climate with rainfall that is generally winter-dominant, averaging around 500-600mm annually. The landscape is dominated by Red Chromosols (often referred to as red-brown earths), which typically feature a sandy loam topsoil overlying a clay subsoil. These soils are naturally fertile but can be susceptible to acidity and structure decline, making them well-suited for the regenerative soil health activities proposed by this project.
