Lloyd Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Lloyd Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the rural locality of Combaning, approximately 22 kilometers south of the township of Temora in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered on October 21, 2024, the project covers an area of 89.76 hectares. The surrounding region is part of the South West Slopes and Riverina, a major agricultural zone renowned for mixed farming operations that typically combine winter cropping, such as wheat and canola, with sheep and cattle grazing.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by implementing new management activities that store carbon in the soil. For this specific project, activities include altering stocking rates to improve vegetation cover, applying nutrients to address soil deficiencies, and re-establishing pastures. A key requirement of this method is the rigorous measurement of soil carbon stocks through physical sampling (baseline and subsequent rounds) to empirically verify the sequestration.

Environmentally, the Temora region is characterized by a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 525mm. The soil types in this area are predominantly red-brown earths (Chromosols) and clay loams, which are naturally productive but can be susceptible to acidity and structure decline if not carefully managed. The project's focus on pasture rejuvenation and stubble retention suggests a strategy designed to build soil structure and organic matter in these specific soil types. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, is a subsidiary of Agriprove, Australia's largest soil carbon project developer. The designation "Lloyd Carbon Project 2" indicates this is likely the second stage of a carbon farming initiative on the Lloyd family property or aggregation.
