Lloyd Carbon Project 1

Project Information:
Lloyd Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Temora in the Riverina region of New South Wales. The project, which covers an area of roughly 179 hectares, was registered with the Clean Energy Regulator in October 2024. The surrounding landscape is part of the South West Slopes, a prominent agricultural zone heavily utilized for mixed farming, including winter cereal cropping (wheat, canola) and livestock grazing.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon "Measurement and Models" methodology. This framework requires the proponent to establish a baseline of soil organic carbon levels through physical soil core sampling. Following this, land management activities are altered to encourage carbon drawdown from the atmosphere into the soil. For Lloyd Carbon Project 1, these activities include applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, rejuvenating pastures through seeding, and modifying grazing intensity to maintain better vegetation cover. In future years, subsequent measurement rounds, often aided by modeling, will determine the net increase in soil carbon, generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) for the sequestered amount.
The environmental context of the Temora Shire is characterized by a temperate climate with a mean annual rainfall of approximately 500mm to 550mm, which is generally winter-dominant. The soils in this district are typically Red Chromosols (often referred to as red-brown earths), which are well-regarded for their agricultural potential but can be susceptible to acidity and sodicity in the subsoil. The project is managed by AgriProve, a leading developer in the soil carbon sector known for utilizing satellite data and advanced soil testing to streamline the credit generation process for landholders.
