Wooldridge Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Wooldridge Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located near Yea and Seymour in the Murrindindi local government area of Victoria, approximately 100km north-east of Melbourne. It was registered in July 2024 and covers an area of 118.18 hectares.

Soil carbon projects operating under the Measurement and Models methodology involve implementing new or materially altered agricultural management practices to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. Standard requirements dictate that proponents must undertake regular, rigorous soil testing and baseline sampling to physically measure carbon increases over time. The specific activities for this project include altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing, applying nutrients in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material deficiencies, and re-establishing or rejuvenating pasture through seeding or pasture cropping.

The Murrindindi region is known for extensive agricultural land use, predominantly focused on sheep and cattle grazing as well as some broadacre cropping. The environment in this area is classified as having a temperate, moderate rainfall climate. Soils in this region generally consist of clay loams and sandy loams, which are highly responsive to pasture improvements and soil carbon sequestration efforts.

An interesting note is that the proponent, Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, is a subsidiary of Agriprove, which is widely recognized as one of Australia's largest soil carbon project developers. This project aims to demonstrate how active pasture management and targeted soil nutrition can simultaneously improve overall soil health, promote robust vegetation cover, and generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) while maintaining active agricultural operations.
