Wooldridge Carbon Project 1

Project Information:

Wooldridge Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon project located near Pyalong, approximately 90 kilometers north of Melbourne in Victoria. It was registered in July 2024 and covers an area of 45.53 hectares.

Projects operating under the Measurement and Models Soil Carbon methodology involve undertaking new or materially different agricultural management practices to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. This method requires measuring baseline soil carbon levels and estimating carbon sequestration over time using rigorous soil sampling and modeling.

The Pyalong region is historically known for pastoral activities, with over 70% of farmland dedicated to sheep and cattle grazing, often supplemented by broadacre cereal cropping. The area experiences a variable climate with moderate rainfall. The local terrain features a mix of fertile valleys with alluvial sandy loams, and undulating hills containing well-drained granitic and clay soils.

This project aims to increase carbon in the soil by altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health. Additionally, the agricultural system is being rejuvenated by seeding and pasture cropping, while material soil deficiencies are being addressed by applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers. The project is managed by AgriProve Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, a proponent highly active in soil carbon development that recently hosted a local "Grazing for Soil Carbon" field day in the area.
