Dysart 2023 Carbon Project

Project Information:
Dysart 2023 Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located on the "Dysart" property near Tottenham, approximately 130km west of Dubbo in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in February 2024, the project covers 1,262 hectares of agricultural land. The property is owned and operated by Paul and Meggan Adam, well-known local growers who have historically implemented dryland cropping systems, including wheat and canola rotations.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which measures increases in soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks over time using a hybrid approach of physical soil sampling and modelled estimates. While the registered activity involves applying nutrients to address deficiencies, the project proponent, Loam Carbon, is a specialist in microbial carbon sequestration. It is highly likely this project incorporates their proprietary fungal seed treatment (CarbonBuilder) or similar biological inputs designed to enhance the soil's natural capacity to store stable carbon, alongside standard nutrient management strategies.
The Tottenham region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 450mm. The landscape at Dysart features red clay loam soils, which are typical of the area's "red earth" country. The property has a history of innovation; owner Paul Adam is a Nuffield Scholar who has previously transitioned the farm to no-till and controlled traffic farming systems to improve efficiency and soil health.
