ARROWSMITH AGGREGATION SOIL CARBON PROJECT

ERF191275

Project Information:

The Arrowsmith Aggregation Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the locality of Arrowsmith, approximately 45km southeast of Dongara and 30km north of Eneabba in the Mid West region of Western Australia. Registered on October 20, 2024, the project covers a substantial area of 3,399 hectares.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which allows landholders to earn carbon credits by increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) levels through improved management practices. Standard requirements for this method involve establishing a baseline SOC stock through physical soil sampling and then implementing new activities to sequester carbon. For this aggregation, the proponent, Penagri Carbon Pty Ltd, working with service provider Carbon West, intends to alter stocking rates to improve vegetation cover, apply nutrients to address soil deficiencies, and rejuvenate pastures through seeding or pasture cropping.

The Arrowsmith region is situated within the Northern Agricultural Region of Western Australia, characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The area typically receives an annual rainfall of approximately 450mm to 500mm. The landscape is part of the Arrowsmith Sandplain, where soils are predominantly deep sands, sandy earths, and gravelly loams. These sandy soils are often naturally low in organic carbon, presenting a significant opportunity for sequestration when management practices such as maintaining higher ground cover and correcting nutrient deficits are applied. The "Aggregation" in the project name suggests the project likely encompasses multiple land titles or farming properties managed under a single carbon project umbrella.
