Myong NFMR Project

Project Information:
Myong NFMR Project is a Native Forest from Managed Regrowth project located in the Maranoa region, approximately 85km southwest of the major town of Roma and 65km west of Surat in South West Queensland. It was registered in March 2024 and covers a project area of 4,488.90 hectares.
Native Forest from Managed Regrowth (NFMR) projects involve the establishment of permanent native forests through assisted regeneration from in-situ seed sources, such as rootstock and lignotubers. This methodology is strictly applied on land that has experienced at least one comprehensive clearing for pastoral use. Standard requirements for this project type involve the cessation of mechanical or chemical destruction of regrowth, as well as carefully managing the timing and extent of livestock grazing to ensure the native forest is allowed to actively regenerate.
The Maranoa region is well-known for extensive cattle and sheep grazing operations. The environmental conditions in this part of Queensland are classified as semi-arid with a highly variable, summer-dominant rainfall pattern. Soils in this area are typically a mix of sandy loams, deep red earths, and vertosols (cracking clays).
This project is operated by Pastoral Partners Australia, a corporate farming operator backed by superannuation funds that seeks to transform grazing properties by optimising the balance of food production, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity. They run an active cattle breeding operation alongside the carbon project on the Myong property. Additionally, on March 31, 2024, the project was divided under section 77A of the Carbon Farming Initiative (CFI) Act, a legislative mechanism typically used when property boundaries, project areas, or ownership structures are reorganized.
