Lindsay Carbon Project 4
ERF189868
Project Information:
Lindsay Carbon Project 4 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Murweh Shire of Queensland, approximately 40km west of the township of Augathella. Registered in March 2024, the project covers nearly 320 hectares of agricultural land in a region deeply entrenched in pastoral history. The area is part of the broader grazing lands of the Warrego region, where land use is predominantly cattle and sheep grazing on native vegetation.
The project operates in a semi-arid environment, typical of south-west Queensland, which generally receives an average annual rainfall of around 500mm. The local landscape is characterized by red earths (Kandosols) and grey cracking clays (Vertosols), soils that are often associated with Mulga lands and Mitchell grass downs. These soil types are the focus of the project's sequestration efforts, where the objective is to build organic carbon stocks that may have been depleted by historical land use.
Managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent soil carbon developer, the project employs the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method requires the project proponent to establish a baseline soil carbon level through physical core sampling. Subsequently, land management activities, such as altering stocking rates, grazing duration, or intensity, are implemented to stimulate plant growth and soil health. The resulting increase in soil organic carbon is then measured and modelled over time to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
