Lindsay Carbon Project 5
ERF189871
Project Information:
Lindsay Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon project located approximately 35km west of the town of Augathella in the Murweh Shire of Queensland. Registered on March 12, 2024, the project covers an area of roughly 345 hectares. The surrounding region, often associated with the Mulga Lands bioregion, is predominantly used for grazing cattle and sheep, an industry that defines the local economy of Augathella, known as "Meat Ant Country."
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. This methodology rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through improved land management. Specific activities for this project include altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to promote vegetation cover and soil health. By optimizing grazing pressure, the project aims to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere into the soil profile.
Environmentally, the Augathella region experiences a semi-arid climate with a long-term average annual rainfall of approximately 500mm to 580mm. The soils in this area are typically red earths, sandy loams, or clay loams, which are common in the Mulga Lands and suitable for the targeted soil carbon improvements. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent developer in the sector, and appears to be part of a larger portfolio of aggregated projects, as indicated by the existence of other similarly named projects such as Lindsay Carbon Project 10.
