Lindsay Carbon Project 3
ERF189865
Project Information:
Lindsay Carbon Project 3 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Murweh Shire, approximately 45km west of Augathella in central-southern Queensland. Registered in March 2024, the project covers roughly 365 hectares of agricultural land. The project appears to be part of a broader aggregation or staged development, with other associated projects (such as Lindsay Carbon Project 11) appearing in the same regulatory sequence.
The project operates under the "Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models 2021" methodology. This method allows landholders to earn carbon credits by increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) levels through improved land management. Unlike older methods that relied solely on expensive physical soil sampling, this 2021 determination allows for a hybrid approach using computational models (like DayCent or RothC) validated by on-ground measurement to estimate carbon stocks over time. The specific activities for this project involve altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing, practices often associated with regenerative agriculture or rotational grazing, to improve ground cover and soil health.
The region is situated within the Mulga Lands bioregion, an area predominantly used for grazing cattle and sheep. The climate is semi-arid, with Augathella receiving an average annual rainfall of approximately 490mm. Soils in this area are typically red earths or cracking clays (Vertosols) and texture-contrast soils, which are well-suited to soil carbon projects that focus on increasing biomass and retaining moisture through better grazing management. The project is facilitated by AgriProve, a major corporate service provider that specializes in "digitally enabled" soil carbon projects, often funding the upfront costs of baselining in exchange for a portion of the resulting credits.
