Lindsay Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Lindsay Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Murweh Shire of Queensland, approximately 40km west of the town of Augathella. Registered on March 12, 2024, the project covers an area of roughly 330 hectares. The project is situated in a region predominantly utilized for grazing cattle and sheep, characterized by its semi-arid climate and vast rangelands.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This methodology allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by sequestering carbon in agricultural soils. Key activities for this project involve altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to improve soil health and vegetation cover. By optimizing grazing pressure, the project aims to increase biomass and soil organic carbon levels over time.

Environmentally, the Augathella region typically experiences a semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 500mm, though this can be highly variable. The soils in the broader Murweh district generally consist of red earths (Kandosols) in the Mulga lands and cracking clays (Vertosols) on the open downs, both of which are responsive to improved grazing management for carbon retention. The proponent, Agriprove Solutions Co No.2 Pty Ltd, is a subsidiary of Agriprove, a major developer in the Australian soil carbon market known for utilizing digital soil measurement technologies.
