Lindsay Carbon Project 1

Project Information:

Lindsay Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 40 kilometers west of Augathella in the Murweh Shire region of Queensland. Registered in March 2024, the project covers a land area of 377.5 hectares. This relatively small project area, compared to the vast stations typical of the Warrego region, suggests it may be a pilot site or a specific paddock within a larger grazing aggregation.

The project operates within the Mulga Lands bioregion, an area characterized by semi-arid conditions and a historical reliance on sheep and cattle grazing. The region typically receives variable rainfall averaging around 500mm annually. Soils in this area often consist of red earths and sandy loams, though pockets of cracking clays (Mitchell grass downs) are also present near the Warrego River system. The project's primary activity involves altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to promote vegetation cover, which in turn facilitates the sequestration of carbon into the soil.

Managed by Agriprove, Australia’s largest soil carbon project developer, the project utilizes the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models). This method requires the proponent to establish a baseline soil carbon stock through physical core sampling. Following the implementation of new management activities, such as time-controlled grazing or pasture improvement, the soil is re-measured or modeled over time to calculate the increase in soil organic carbon, for which Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) are issued.
