Wright Pastoral Kahona Soil Carbon Project
ERF189853
Project Information:
The Wright Pastoral Kahona Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located near the high-country village of Ebor, approximately 80km east of Armidale and 45km west of Dorrigo in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. Registered in October 2024, the project covers 462.52 hectares on the "Kahona" property, which forms part of the proponent's larger Ebor Aggregation.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which rewards landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels through changes in land management. Specific activities for this project include the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies and the re-establishment or rejuvenation of pastures through seeding. These actions are designed to boost plant growth and root biomass, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile.
The region is characterized by its high altitude (around 1,400m above sea level) and distinct cool climate. The area typically receives high annual rainfall, estimated between 1,200mm and 1,500mm, and features rich red basalt soils known for their fertility. The land is primarily used for high-value grazing; Wright Pastoral is a multi-generational family business specializing in full-blood and cross-bred Wagyu cattle production. This project likely complements their intensive rotational grazing systems aimed at sustainable, high-marbling beef production.
