Lawrence Carbon Project 6

Project Information:
Lawrence Carbon Project 6 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 6km west of the town of Three Springs in the Mid West region of Western Australia. Registered on September 18, 2024, the project covers a land area of roughly 215 hectares. The project is part of a larger series of carbon farming initiatives in the district, likely associated with a local agricultural enterprise managed by the Lawrence family, with "Lawrence Carbon Project 1" appearing on the register with the same registration date.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon stocks through changes in land management. Specific activities for this project include the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, the introduction of cover crops to improve soil health, and the integration of legume species into cropping or pasture systems. These practices are designed to boost biomass production and organic matter retention in the soil, generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) based on measured and modelled increases over time.
The Three Springs region sits within the northern Western Australian wheatbelt, an area characterized by a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. The average annual rainfall is approximately 400-500mm. The local landscape typically supports broadacre cropping (wheat, canola, lupins) and sheep grazing. Soils in this vicinity are often dominated by the sandplains of the Geraldton region, featuring sandy loams and deep sands that can be susceptible to non-wetting issues, making the soil health improvements targeted by this project particularly valuable for agricultural productivity.
