Lawrence Carbon Project 7

Project Information:

Lawrence Carbon Project 7 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 8 kilometers southwest of the town of Three Springs in the Mid West region of Western Australia. Registered in September 2024, the project covers a land area of roughly 281 hectares. The project operates under the Carbon Farming Initiative's 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which awards credits for increases in soil organic carbon stocks measured against a baseline.

The Three Springs district is situated in the northern agricultural region of Western Australia, a zone characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The area typically receives an annual rainfall of around 370-400mm, supporting a mix of broadacre cropping (wheat, canola, lupins) and sheep grazing. The local landscape is often defined by its "sandplain" soils, typically sandy earths and gravels that can be non-wetting but productive under careful management, interspersed with heavier clay loams in valley floors.

To generate carbon credits, the project proponent, Agriprove Solutions, intends to implement specific land management activities designed to boost soil health. According to project data, these activities include the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, the introduction of legume species into cropping or pasture rotations, and the use of cover crops to maintain vegetation cover. These practices are aimed at increasing biomass production and retention, thereby sequestering more carbon into the soil profile over the project's 25-year permanence period.
