Lawrence Carbon Project 5

Project Information:

Lawrence Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the Shire of Three Springs, Western Australia, approximately 10km south-west of the town of Three Springs. Registered on September 18, 2024, the project covers 396.78 hectares of agricultural land. The project is situated in the Mid West region of Western Australia, an area predominantly used for broadacre cropping (including wheat, canola, and lupins) and sheep grazing.

The region typically experiences a Mediterranean climate with cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers. Rainfall in the Three Springs area generally averages between 350mm and 450mm annually. The local soil landscape is characterized by the sandplains of the northern wheatbelt, often consisting of yellow sands, sandy loams, and red duplex soils which can be responsive to improved management practices but may naturally have lower organic carbon levels.

This project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models Methodology Determination 2021. This method credits landholders for increases in soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks resulting from a change in land management. Specific activities for this project include the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies, the introduction of legume species into cropping or pasture systems, and the use of cover crops to maintain vegetation cover and enhance soil biology. The project is managed by Agriprove, a leading developer in the sector known for utilizing biological inputs and multi-species pastures to drive carbon sequestration. The designation "Project 5" and the simultaneous registration of related projects (such as Lawrence Carbon Project 1) suggest this is part of a larger aggregated landholding or a staged registration across a substantial property.
