Source Separated Organic Waste projects involve preventing eligible organic materials from entering landfills, thereby avoiding the release of methane gas produced during anaerobic decomposition. The standard requirements of the methodology dictate that eligible waste must be separated from a single stream at the point of generation and transferred to specialised facilities. The waste must then be treated using approved eligible technologies, such as open windrow composting or enclosed composting.

Operating broadly across the commercial corridors of New South Wales and Victoria, the project spans diverse environmental zones. These regional hubs are generally characterised by temperate climates with moderate to high coastal rainfall. While the native soil types across these geographic areas range widely from heavy clays to sandy loams, the project activities take place entirely within municipal or commercial waste treatment facilities where natural soil profiles are largely inapplicable.

The project is managed by EC Focus Pty Ltd, an independent Australian energy, climate, and circular economy advisory firm with offices in Sydney and Melbourne. EC Focus assists commercial and industrial clients in lowering emissions and achieving their net-zero targets. This carbon project serves to aggregate new and expanded waste diversion operations across their client network to generate and commercialise Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
