Landari Wayatinah 2023

Project Information:
Landari Wayatinah 2023 is a plantation forestry project located near the hydro-electric village of Wayatinah, approximately 108km northwest of Hobart in Tasmania's Central Highlands. Registered in January 2024, the project covers a substantial area of 418.54 hectares. The surrounding region is characterized by a cool temperate climate and a mix of land uses, primarily forestry, hydro-electric power generation, and agriculture.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. This methodology is designed for commercial timber operations, allowing proponents to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by establishing new plantation forests or converting existing short-rotation plantations to long-rotation cycles. Unlike environmental plantings which are permanent, these forests are managed for the commercial harvest of wood products, sequestering carbon in both the growing trees and the resulting harvested wood products.
Environmentally, the Wayatinah area typically experiences a cool climate with moderate rainfall, recorded in recent years at approximately 530mm annually, though historical long-term averages in the highlands can be higher. The local terrain is often defined by the presence of Jurassic dolerite, resulting in soils that are generally clay loams or derived from sedimentary rock and dolerite mixtures. The project proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, is a recognised member of the Australian Forest Products Association and specializes in integrating carbon revenue with traditional forestry management.
