AKD-4 Vic 2022: Turrong Rd and Chrome Rd

Project Information:
AKD-4 Vic 2022: Turrong Rd and Chrome Rd is a plantation forestry project located at two distinct sites in western Victoria: Chrome Road near Branxholme (25km south of Hamilton) and Turrong Road in Cooriemungle (10km east of Timboon). It was registered in August 2023 and covers 345.17ha.
Plantation forestry projects involve establishing, expanding, or managing plantation forests (such as radiata pine or eucalypt species) to sequester carbon. Under the standard requirements, these projects are structured for the commercial harvesting of wood products and must maintain specific tree stocking densities to ensure commercial viability and successful forest canopy cover.
The regions surrounding the project are highly productive and well-suited for timber and agriculture. The Branxholme area in the Southern Grampians Shire is historically known for sheep and cattle grazing, experiencing moderate-to-high rainfall with a mix of basalt-derived and loamy soils. Cooriemungle, located in the high-rainfall Corangamite Shire, features fertile, heavy-textured clays and loams that strongly support both dairy farming and established coastal forestry operations.
This project captures carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest for commercial wood products. Notably, the project's participant name was updated from Landari PTY LTD to Associated Kiln Driers PTY LTD (AKD) in November 2023. AKD Softwoods is a major 100% Australian-owned integrated forestry and timber processing company based in Colac, Victoria, which manages over 12,000 hectares of sustainable pine plantations and operates sawmills across the country.
