Carrick Carbon Project 1

Project Information:
Carrick Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon project located in the rural locality of Durong, Queensland, approximately 75km west-northwest of Kingaroy in the South Burnett region. Registered in July 2025, the project covers a land area of 217.24 hectares. The surrounding Durong area is predominantly used for agricultural purposes, specifically grazing and cattle farming, which aligns with the project's focus on pasture management.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology (2021). This method rewards landholders for increasing soil carbon stocks through improved management practices. For this specific project, activities include altering stocking rates, duration, or intensity of grazing, as well as re-establishing or rejuvenating pastures through seeding. These changes are designed to increase vegetation cover and soil health, thereby sequestering more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil.
Environmentally, the South Burnett region experiences a sub-tropical climate with a summer-dominant rainfall pattern. Durong typically receives an average annual rainfall of approximately 600mm. The local terrain generally features a mix of soil types, often characterized by the red earths and sandy loams common to the district, though the region is also known for pockets of fertile cracking clays (vertosols). The project is facilitated by Agriprove, a prominent developer in the Australian soil carbon sector.
