Ryan Carbon Project 2
ERF179167
Project Information:
Ryan Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located near the locality of Kingstown, approximately 50km west of the city of Armidale in the New England region of New South Wales. Registered in March 2023, the project covers a project area of 303.35 hectares.
The surrounding Uralla Shire and New England Tablelands are predominantly utilised for grazing, specifically for fine wool sheep and beef cattle production. The region typically experiences a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall between 700mm and 800mm. The local soil landscape often features granite-derived soils and trap rock, technically classified as Chromosols, which can vary in fertility and structure.
This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon (Measurement and Models) methodology. This method credits landholders for increasing Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks through changes in land management. For Ryan Carbon Project 2, the specific new activity involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material nutrient deficiencies in the soil. By correcting these deficits, the project aims to boost pasture productivity and root biomass, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil profile.
An interesting note is that this project appears to be part of a larger aggregation or staged implementation, as a sibling project titled "Ryan Carbon Project" (ERF179147) was also registered by the same proponent, Agriprove Solutions.
