Ryan Carbon Project

Project Information:
Ryan Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located near Bundarra in the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, approximately 50km northwest of Armidale. Registered on 10 March 2023, the project covers 334.25 hectares of grazing land. The region is characterized by granite and trap soils, supporting a mix of sheep and cattle grazing operations. The area typically receives a mean annual rainfall of approximately 757mm, classifying it as a high-rainfall zone suitable for intensive pasture management.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits increases in soil organic carbon (SOC) achieved through new management activities. Specific activities implemented by the landholders, the Doran family, include the transition from conventional set-stocking to time-controlled rotational grazing (with stock moves every five days) and the application of biological teas instead of synthetic fertilisers. These changes aim to improve soil biology, reduce compaction, and increase water infiltration.
Managed in partnership with AgriProve, the project is part of a broader 456-hectare regenerative farming operation that includes a second associated project ("Ryan Carbon Project 2"). Notably, the project has demonstrated significant co-benefits, with the landholders reporting a 25% increase in stocking capacity, growing from 250 cows to 300 head of cattle plus 1,800 sheep, while simultaneously sequestering carbon. In late 2025, the combined operation was issued over 4,800 Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs), validating the success of the biological farming approach.
