Sinclair Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Sinclair Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located in the Tatiara district, approximately 12km north-northeast of Bordertown, South Australia. Registered in July 2024, the project covers a project area of 314 hectares. The site sits within the productive agricultural zone near the South Australia-Victoria border, a region widely recognized as the "Good Country" due to its reliable mixed farming capabilities.

This project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which measures the increase of Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks over time. To achieve this, the project activities involve applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address specific nutrient deficiencies, converting from intensive tillage to reduced or no-till practices, and retaining crop stubble. These changes are designed to improve soil structure and microbial health, thereby sequestering atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.

The local environment in the Tatiara district is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with medium annual rainfall, typically averaging between 450mm and 500mm. The soil composition in this area is notoriously variable, ranging from the fertile "Tatiara clays" (grey or brown cracking clays) on the flats to sandy loams and ironstone ridges. The land use is predominantly mixed cropping, producing cereals, canola, and beans, alongside livestock grazing.

An interesting aspect of this project is its identifier "Sinclair Carbon Project 2," which appears to be part of a larger aggregation of projects (including Sinclair Carbon Project 5) managed by the same proponent, Agriprove Solutions. This suggests a staged rollout across a larger agricultural property or family holding to manage baselining and crediting periods effectively.
