Project Information:

Landari Rossarden 2022 is a plantation forestry project located near the small township of Rossarden, approximately 70 kilometers southeast of Launceston in Tasmania. Registered in July 2023, the project covers an area of roughly 285 hectares in the foothills south of Ben Lomond National Park. The region is historically known for a mix of mining, forestry operations, and grazing, situated within the Northern Midlands Council area.

The project operates under the 2022 Plantation Forestry methodology, specifically utilizing the provision for transitioning an existing plantation forest into a permanent planting (Schedule 4). This activity involves taking a commercial timber plantation, which would typically be harvested and potentially converted to non-forested land such as pasture, and legally protecting it to grow indefinitely. By ceasing commercial logging cycles, the trees continue to sequester carbon in their biomass as they mature, acting as a long-term carbon sink.

Environmentally, the Rossarden region experiences a cool temperate climate with moderate rainfall sufficient to support established timber stands. The terrain is generally rugged and hilly, often characterized by granitic soil types derived from the local geology associated with the Ben Lomond massif. The project proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, is a boutique carbon developer founded by experienced forestry executives Simon Penfold and Arjan Wilkie, who specialize in transitioning timber assets into carbon and biodiversity offsets.
