Jones Carbon Project 7

Project Information:

Jones Carbon Project 7 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the fertile Arcadia Valley, approximately 80 kilometers north of Injune in Central Queensland. Registered in February 2023, the project covers roughly 341 hectares of agricultural land primarily utilized for cattle grazing. The Arcadia Valley region is renowned as high-quality "fattening country," supported by a sub-tropical semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 700mm.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This framework requires the proponent to establish a baseline of soil carbon stocks through physical sampling (typically to a depth of one meter) and then implement new management activities to sequester additional carbon. Specific activities for this project include altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing. By optimizing grazing pressure and promoting rest periods for pastures, the project aims to enhance vegetation cover and improve soil health, thereby increasing soil organic carbon levels.

Environmental conditions in the area are characterized by deep, cracking clay soils (Vertosols) and fertile Brigalow scrub soils, which are highly capable of retaining moisture and supporting robust pasture growth. A notable administrative update occurred on June 12, 2024, when a variation to the project area was processed, removing certain originally listed areas from the project boundary. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a leading developer in the Australian soil carbon market known for partnering with livestock producers to integrate carbon farming into grazing enterprises.
