Jones Carbon Project 6
ERF176435
Project Information:
Jones Carbon Project 6 is a soil carbon sequestration project located in the fertile Arcadia Valley, approximately 60km north of Injune in Central Queensland. Registered in February 2023, the project initially covered nearly 250 hectares before a variation in June 2024 removed specific non-eligible areas from the project boundary. The project is managed by Agriprove Solutions, a prominent soil carbon project developer in Australia.
The Arcadia Valley region is renowned for its high-quality beef cattle grazing and cropping capabilities. The area typically experiences a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall. The local environment is characterized by nutrient-rich Vertosols (cracking clay soils) and Brigalow soils, which are highly conducive to soil carbon sequestration when managed effectively.
Operated under the 2021 Soil Carbon Methodology, this project aims to increase Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks through changes in land management. Specifically, the project involves altering stocking rates, duration, and intensity of grazing to improve vegetation cover and soil health. By optimizing grazing pressure, the project seeks to enhance the soil's ability to retain carbon, generating Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) based on measured and modelled increases in soil carbon over time.
