Jones Carbon Project 8

Project Information:
Jones Carbon Project 8 is a soil organic carbon sequestration project located in the Maranoa region of Queensland, approximately 70 kilometers northeast of the township of Injune. Registered in February 2023, the project currently operates over an area of 489 hectares, following a variation in June 2024 that removed specific areas from the project boundary. The project is part of a larger aggregation of carbon farming initiatives managed by the Peart family, often referred to in conjunction with the "Blewett" projects in industry reports.
The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This high-integrity method allows landholders to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by demonstrating measurable increases in soil carbon stocks over time. The specific activities employed at this site involve altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing. By optimizing grazing pressure, the proponent aims to increase ground cover and root mass, which in turn facilitates the sequestration of carbon into the soil profile.
Environmentally, the site is situated near the Arcadia Valley and Carnarvon Range, a region characterized by a sub-tropical, semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall. The area is renowned for its cattle grazing suitability, often supported by fertile cracking clay soils (Vertosols) and Brigalow scrub earth, though sandy loams may be present closer to the ranges. The proponent, AgriProve Solutions, is a leading developer in this sector and has highlighted the Peart family's aggregation as a successful example of integrating carbon farming with commercial beef production.
